News Shmooze
March 10th, 2010
It’s this simple, we run the best game in town, and our shit is tight. I would love to have something to report on each week after trivia, but sometimes I just don’t. Right now we’ve got great turn outs, close games, and awesome players. What more can a host and a trivia night ask for? Nothing.
Short and Sweet
February 16th, 2010
Trivia has been freaking excellent lately. Even on Valentine’s day we had a great turn out. Thank you to all of our passionate and phenomenal players for coming out each and every week. Tag in rounds have all been absolute ganbusters as well, so keep those ideas coming in! Read more...
For those of you that missed the competition on Monday (Valentine’s Day) we found out something pretty amazing, the vocal melody for Men Without Hats’ “Safety Dance” is the exact same as Dragon Force’s “Through the Fire and Flame”. The things you learn by coming to trivia!
Newspapers Love Our Shit!

If you haven’t picked up a copy of this week’s Mountain Xpress than allow us to be the first to tell you that we got a totally awesome write up! You can check it out here. Big thanks to both journalists for their great words and reporting, and a big thanks to all of you that make our trivia night such an interesting and news worthy event week after week.
We want more of your tag in rounds! A lot of you continue to promise tag-ins, but they have not been received yet, and if you don’t submit a round you can’t host a round! So get on that! Kipper loves tagging out, and you all love tagging in, so let’s get this going and try to keep it as a weekly staple of our totally rad trivia night!
Do you bitches like karaoke? Kipper and Pat from the Nutsack Draculas are working hard with the assistance of Jason Holland to put together a Karaoke night at broadways. More info to come regarding that!

A Continuing Agenda of Awesome!
January 6th, 2010
Well it’s a new year, and a new chance to continue this onslaught of awesome. A chance to redefine the general notions of what Trivia Nights, Quiz Nights, and Bar Entertainment can and should be. So the next question that comes to mind is how? Read more...
Well, it’s up to our host Kipper to continue his antics, and not get burnt out.
It’s up to our players to stay true to the cause.
And it’s up to all of us to bring in new and fresh competitors so that more can be introduced to that which we do.
As far as news goes, there’s not much to report. The article in the Bold Life came out, including a perculiar picture of Kipper making a face... that’s... well... interesting. You can click here to check it out. Aside from the strange face, it’s a very pleasant article. Big thanks to Jonathan Rich for taking such a keen interest in what we do.
We Keeps it Real!
December 1stieth, 2010
We’d love to say that there’s some earth shattering news to report, but in all truth there’s really not all that much new stuff to chime in on. Competitions have been fierce and well populated. Oh, that and we gave out 5 laptops on the 29th. Read more...
In brief news the Tag rounds are working out swimingly. Thus far Kipper’s father Jay, Quizmopper Blumpkin reg Cattlin, and veteran Lee have all tagged in. We’re still looking for more tag rounds, so make sure to submit your round by clicking that big old button on the left hand side of your screen, or click this here link.
Tag You’re It!
November 16th, 2010
It has been a while since our last update, and quite a bit has happened. We’ve had guest hosts, news coverage, and a brand new idea that assures that Kipper’s Trivia Night is the raddest baddest quiz night in the land! Read more...
First and foremost, we had a fantastic guest host. Ziggy Nix took the stage and led us all through an epic battle of nerdery, getting downright nasty with a round on classic computer games. Kipper joined the melee and along with his team took home gold.
The Mountain Xpress showed up to see what all the hubub regarding Kipper’s Trivia Night was about, and why all those that attend refer to it as the best trivia night in Asheville. We look forward to the upcoming article in the Mountain Xpress and we’ll keep you posted about its release.
There were a couple of other wonderful nights, but things came to a climax last night as Kipper’s Trivia Night once again shook things up and broke new ground on trivia excellence. Last night we introduced the concept of a Tag round. This is a round where Kipper calls upon a player from the crowd who has a round of eight questions ready to go. The player ascends the stage, and Kipper tags in to the team with the lowest score that has space on their team. The tagged in host goes through their round, everyone has a great time, and Kipper gets to hang out with a team.
Crazy, right? It worked out great though, and we look forward to many more tag in guest hosts in the coming future. This way we can give more of our players a guest hosting experience more often than the once every one or two month scenario we have used in the past.
This is how Blood Feuds get started!

Success! After nearly a year of verbally slapping our trivia rivals over at Jack of the Wood their host Jason fired off a retort or two! Following is a transcript of the conversation as it appeared on Twitter. Read full story...
Congratulations to @kipperstrivia for making the Best of WNC. From what I hear, you truly deserve it. #avlent
Aw it’s no fun when you’re chivalrous. Thanks for the kind words. Congrats on maintaining first, you helm quite the dynasty!
Be ye not confused. The chivalry was clouding an underhanded dig. #its2ndplaceyoudeservesucka
Good job keeping your shit boring enough that geriatrics feel welcome. #trywritingyourownquestions #fucktard
(Go ahead and click on the link, it’s important to the conversation)
At this point I considered the conversation over. If I were to say anything more I’d look like a moron.
However, Kipper’s Trivia regular and all around awesome chick Wendy Lou chimed in:
Seriously [Jason] @kipperstrivia really is the best in #avl—despite polls—been to trivia @jackofthewood, fell asleep both times #fjotw ;)
That’s cool. Trivia is kind of trivial; just my day job. Monday’s @ jotw is a perpetual packed house. That’s enough for me.
Since when did you start hosting trivia there?
I guess a little over a year and a half. It’s true, I don’t write the questions. I just show up, read and add a little charm.
would prolly be better if you wrote the questions.
We take on all comers!
October 5th, 2010

1 Year of Total Awesomeness!
October 5th, 2010
Well that was a seriously wonderful night! We went through new questions from some of our favorite rounds, and gave away the biggest winning pot ever! $235 Read more...
It was a thrilling night from start to finish. Asheville’s own Oxymoron’s Improv warmed up the crowd, and got everyone in the spirits before we had even started. The questions were thrilling, including Kipper’s Mom explains a movie, and slash fiction, which always goes over huge.
In the end with 13 teams playing, everyone got a prize, including an original NES with GRAY zapper! The final moments were tense with anticipation as Numbers is Not Bad and The Quiz Moppers 2 Full Blumpkin tied for first after the lightning round. After a third party numbers question, Numbers is Not Bad FINALLY came out on top and left with the biggest winning cash pot in Kipper’s Trivia Night history. Quiz Moppers 2 Full Blumpkin received $50 in cash and the Nintendo, and not far behind was our 3rd place team, Dark Chocolate Giddiup, who received $30 in cash and a sweet Visual Companion to The Return of The King.
It was a truly FANTASTIC evening, we couldn’t have asked for things to have gone better, smoother, or radder. Thank you all so much for making Kipper’s Trivia Night what it is, and allowing it to grow and flourish so much over this last year.
Jenny on the Mic & Kipper on the Win!
September 29, 2010
Trivia regular Jenny Wrobel took to the stage on Monday and put her fellow players through a gambit of interesting categories and questions. Kipper was among the mighty players, and was able to squeeze out a win with his felllow teammates. Read more...
Jenny did a fantastic job keeping things interesting and innovative. Trivia Night was honored to have its first live musical round as well, provided by Mark from Harvest Records in West Asheville, who treated everyone to some delightful bass lines for the audio round. Jenny’s other rounds consisted of over analysing films, nosy neighbors, and games.
It was a fantastic evening an a thrilling warm up for next week’s One Year Anniversary celebration. Complete with food, drink, and a comedic warm up act, Kipper is already working his best on composing some of the most brilliant and thrilling questions for all to enjoy. Don’t miss the celebration, on October 4th.
Trivia is serious business bitch!
September 23, 2010
Week after week we are thrilled to see the caliber of players that show up and compete in a consistently vigilant manner. This week we were proud to hand the winnings over to Debaucherous! Read more...
Categories for the evening included Screamo bands ruin the Hits, Mr. Potatoheroes, Simpsons Trivia, and American Remakes of Foreign Films. It was a fitting win on the anniversary of Kipper’s first trivia night in Asheville, considering that most of the team were players on the team that won the very first Kipper’s Trivia Night. On to the news:
Next Monday, September 27th, Kipper will be passing the microphone and the reins to guest host Jenny Wrobel. Kipper will be joining in the melee and competing against his regular players.
Get ready for the following week’s trivia on October 4th when we take an evening to celebrate Kipper’s Trivia Night in all of its glory. What does that mean? Well we’re still working on the details. Expect new questions from some of your favorite past rounds, (quasi) celebrity appearances, things to look at, things to taste, perhaps higher stakes than usual, and if we’re feeling really crafty, maybe random teams. Crazy, we know.
Continuous Adventures in Awesome
September 14th, 2010
In all truth there isn’t much news to report. We had a fantastic match on Monday, with the combined forces of Blumpkin and the Quizmoppers coming together to create a virtual superteam and sieze the cash. Kudos to the Quizmoppers who got their first chance to make it rain. Read more...
Aside from that the only thing to truly report is that you all can start looking forward to September 27th when Kipper will once again join the ranks of the glorious quizzers and compete as a mortal when Jenny Wrobel takes up the mic to lead us through an exciting evening of trivialicious delight.
Furthermore, if you’re ever looking at stuff around your house that you’ve decided that you really don’t need, we DO! We’re always taking donations of junk/stuff/clutter and giving it away as prizes. So bring it and get a high five and some applause in return.
Our Latest News!
Greetings Asheville! So much has happened lately and it’s time to fill you all in! Read more...
First off there’s the move. Since our last update Kipper’s Trivia Night moved its home from Fred’s to Broadway’s. This has been thrilling, with new teams joining the ranks, and a really warm response from everyone at Broadway’s.
Next up we had the voting for the Mountain Xpress’s best of 2010 poll. This is our chance to finally prove to the greater Asheville population that we truly stand heads and shoulders above each and every other Trivia Night in town. Indeed, a testament that no other quizzo, pub quiz, trivia night, or bar fight is half as epic as what Kipper’s Trivia Night brings to Asheville. Sadly, if you haven’t voted yet your chance has come and gone, but we do need some luck, so cross those fingers.
Things to look forward to over the coming month are more pop culture mind blitzes, our first female guest host, and maybe something tasty.
kipper’s trivia news:
Next step: DOMINATION!
You’ve probably been informed that Kipper’s Trivia Night is leaving its home at Fred’s. In the constant quest to be Asheville’s best pub quiz, trivia night, bar battle, or whatever you want to call it, the time has come for us to find a bigger venue. Read more...
We’re heading to Broadway’s. All of you know it, most of you love it, and some of you even spend more time there then your actual apartment. Needless to say, last night was an epic battle, filled with emotional poignancy, as we ended our journey with Fred’s.
The quiz was anniversary style, with a new question from some of our favorite categories over the past year.
Jaws dropped, children cried, but it all lead up to a delicious thank you cake, and a thrilling victory by the Nutsack Draculas.
Kipper is going on vacation for the next week, and trivia will recommence on August 9th at our new venue, Broadway’s.
kipper’s trivia news:
Bring it on Asheville! Trivia News...
There’s so much to say! We haven’t had a chance to update this website in a few weeks. Let’s go through a recap:
1) Kipper’s Dad Hosted Trivia
2) We got all Patriotic the day after Independence Day by not doing any american themed rounds
3) We set yet ANOTHER attendance record, resulting in a winner’s purse of $150
And there’s SOOOO much else to talk about. Read more...
So here’s the big news, and we’re trying to stay as subtle about this as possible, but Kipper’s Trivia is moving to a bigger venue. After a month or so of negotiations, Broadway’s will be our new host. Some of you are extremely excited about this, others are a bit hesitant. I’m sure you have questions such as:
Isn’t Broadways a private club? If I’m not a member, will I have to pay a membership fee to play?
-Yes, broadways is a private club, and no you will not have to pay a membership fee to play. The standard $2 per person remains in effect, but you’ll also be getting a one day membership along with it. This was a major area of concern and I’m happy to say that it has been resolved in favor of our players.
Broadways doesn’t have much room downstairs, and there are no chairs upstairs, what’s the plan here bub?
-Broadway’s is purchasing tables and chairs solely for the purpose of hosting our trivia night. That’s how excited they are.
I really like Fred’s, did they piss you off?
-Never, they have been the most wonderful venue to host at yet. Deciding to change venues was extremely emotional, and we have nothing but love and respect for Arsenio, Frank, Mary, and Anthony, and the other wonderful people at Fred’s that made our time there such a pleasure.
When is this switch happening?
-The last trivia night at Fred’s will be July 19th. Kipper is going on vacation, and upon his return we’ll be moving over to Broadway’s. The first trivia night at Broadway’s is scheduled for August 9th.
An olive branch of Schlitz
There’s really not much else to say other than This Shit Just Ripped My Pants (aka the team that everyone loves to hate for some reason) won over the crowd by buying everybody a beer with their winnings. What? In all truth it’s surprising that the team has only won 3 times in total but has a reputation for being a powerhouse. Read more...
The evening was a joyous occasion, filled with Sound Effects, Album Covers, Kids Shows, and Chick Shit.
Special attention should also be directed to a first time team known as My Delicate Palate taking second place. Definitely looking forward to more great thigns from this team as their strength increases with each battle.
Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Blumpkins Win!
June 1, 2010
Kipper’s Totally Rad Trivia night doesn’t take holidays, and a cast of intensely driven trivia veterans attended a delightfuly chill battle of wits to prove just that. Click to read more...
It was a wonderfully mellow evening of drinking and thinking, after a round dedicated to Dennis Hopper, musical numbers in TV shows, food, and musical duos Baby Wants to Fuuuuuck lead the pack. Things were shaken up in numbers as well, but Baby stood strong on top with a half point lead. It wasn’t until the final round that Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Blumpkins snatched the glory with an astonishing score of 37 correct answers. Damn.
A note to the wise, holidays are always slow for trivia, and I was astonished and impressed by the amount of people that showed up, but people always seem to come out with twice the fury after a holiday week, so make sure to arrive at Fred’s early because seating is bound to be at a premium!
Pac n Clyde dominate a great evening!
If there were a kill screen for trivia night we would have reached it last night. 68 players attended to battle for trivia dominance, and from the get go Pac n Clyde were in the lead. Click to read more...
A veritable dynamo of a team, this is Ian and Scotts third win, and they were joined by a first time winner Angi, and a veteran of making it rain, Jenny. With a total haul of $136, Pac n Clyde have quickly become the thorn in many another team’s side. Who can stop them? Will Blumpkin once again come out of nowhere with an upset victory? Perhaps Nutsack Draculas can get a first time win under their belt. Perhaps Bob Loblaw’s Law Blog will make Kipper proud and achieve the victory their spirit so rightfully deserves.
As far as trivia goes, the questions revolved around drinking games, beer, tv show finales, and foreign languages. It was a fantastic evening, and next week is set to be even more powerful.
Saturday May 15, FANATICON! Featuring Kipper’s Trivia

Lee Guest Hosts, Kipper wins!
It was a great night. 59 players competed against an onslaught of visual and audio rounds from guest host Lee Coleman. Regular host Kipper played among the masses and emerged victorious with his fellow team mates Sara (his girlfriend, Jay (his father), Jason (his birthday brother), and Stephanie (a new faithful friend). Click to read more...
The rounds that Lee created for the evening were Nerds in Movies, Fictional Bands in Pop Culture, Mario Paint Covers The Hits, and Crappy Video Games Based on Movies. Lee also created a fantastic impossible round where teams had to name which celebrities had provided their voices to guest characters on the Simpsons.
All in all it was a fantastic night and Lee did an incredible job hosting. Even in the face of an adverse crowd hell bent on breaking his pride and taking control of the night, Lee stood tall, commanded the evening, and earned the people’s respect!
You Ese Win Massive $140+ pot!
Yet another record setting night! More than 70 competitors! An entire category on sexual deviances! A live screening of ICP’s music video for their creative masterpiece “Miracles”! Click to read more...
It’s amazing how each and every week we’re able to bring in more and more players. Kipper’s Trivia night is only 7 months old, but has been steadily increasing its attendance and its reputation as the most balls out, entertaining, and unique trivia nights in the greater Western North Carolina area.
Last night’s celebration of trivia was fantastic, and in the end You Ese blew past the competition after a fantastic performance in numbers, impossible, and the final round. It was a first time win for regulars Ian, Scott, and Jenny, who were joined by Matt and Dave to assemble a veritable juggernaut of awesome.
Special mentions go to Louisiana’s Black Pelican Problem who tied with You Ese for the highest score in final round with an astounding 32 out of 50. Chocolate Giddiup came out swinging after the first 4 rounds with 39 out of 41 points. 7th Place had a fantastic numbers performance, with a total difference of 6! A big shout out to Rich, playing as An Army of One, and a first time competitor whose name alludes me, playing as Focus on the Fabulous, who both took on the evening as solo competitors.
Sanitary Bachelor Pad win BIG!
Yet another record setting night of attendance and awesomeness! We had over 60 players last night, and doled out the largest winning pot yet, over $120! C-R-A-Z-Y Click to read more...
In the end the power trio referring to themselves as “The Sanitary Bachelor Pad“ blew past the competition with a dramatic final round performance, coming up with 24 out of 34 correct answers. Other notable competitors included DeathNapkin, a second time team that held the lead through the first half of the competition. It was one hell of a night.
Big McLarge Huge Win Butt-Load of Gwap
With a total of 13 teams and 47 players, April 12th’s installment of Kipper’s Totally Rad Trivia Night was a battle to be remembered. Click to read more...
The visual round for the evening was shocking, amazing, and all those that witnessed it shall be forever scarred for having seen it. But in the end, it was a battle between two teams for first place, between Big McLarge Huge comprised of regulars Jason, Megan, Kimberly, Lee, and Stacey, versus a band of a brand new team of new-comers Marky Marx. After a fast food lightning round Big Mclarge Huge maintained their one point lead and won the 90 something dollars in cash.
Absolutely awesome. As a personal note I’d like to congratulate Marky Marx on such a valiant effort, to get second place on your first time playing is nearly unheard of. Damn. Way to go.
Also a quick shout out to Justin, who came through with the best numbers performance of the evening while playing solo. That shit is newsworthy to me!
Clash of the Titans 2... take home another win.
Okay, so the full name was actually “Clash of the Titans 2: The dudes from Cradle of Filth give eachother blow jobs” walked away with yet another pot. Click to read more...
Sure, it was only 2 regular members of the elite hit squad, Justin and Nick, joined by a second time competitor by the name of Dougie, or Duggy. Phonetically it was dug-E. But the fact of the matter stands, this duo/trio/quartet/full team must be stopped. It’s up to you.
After a thrilling competition where reigning champs Justin and Nick and the rest of LGBLT Extra Mayo lead through most of the competition. However, Scrotation Marks, composed of Jason, Lee, Kimberly, and Daggerheart came through with the win in the end.Read more...
This week’s competition had the highest population of players yet, which meant that Scrotation Marks walked off with nearly $100 in cash. Hell yeah.
